2016 7th APMF conference, Lombok Indonesia

The 7th APMF conference “Synergizing Eastern and Western Constructs of Mediation towards Better Understanding” (10-12 February, 2016) was held in Lombok, Indonesia and was extremely successful. It was convened by the Indonesian Institute for Conflict Transformation (IICT) in collaboration with the Supreme Court of Indonesia, with support from the APMF Executive Committee. The European Union (EU) and United Nations Development Program (UNDP) funded 50 Indonesian judges to attend the conference, which was also sponsored by the Faculty of Law – Universitas Indonesia, Faculty of Law – Universitas Hasanuddin, Mawar Saron Legal Aid Institution, the Indonesian Academy of Mediators and Arbitrators and the Resolution Institute Australia. 43 presenters explored diverse approaches to conflict, dispute resolution and mediation to nurture better cross-cultural understanding and to enhance collaborative dispute resolution processes and settlements in the region. 150+ participants from 14 countries attended the conference and we are extremely grateful to the conference organising committee, the EU, UNDP and other sponsors for making it so rewarding for all who attended. The President of the APMF, Dr Dale Bagshaw, conducted a pre-conference Family Mediation Workshop in Jakarta (February 5-6) and assisted in hosting the conference, along with the APMF Co-Secretary /Treasurers Mr Tony O’Gormon and Dato Hui Tan.
